Patient Access is staffed 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year.
- Description of Service:
The Patient Access Department enters patient's demographic and billing information into SMMC's computer system, verifies insurance coverage, and obtains pre-certification from the patient's insurance company for certain services. Most patients will be assigned an account number for each visit. For patient safety reasons, we will confirm a minimum of four identifiers on each patient before finalizing the registration, even if the patient has had services at SMMC recently.
