Southern Maine Medical Center has been rated by patients as one of the nation’s Top 12 Exemplary Hospitals for overall patient satisfaction. Avatar, an independent research organization used by renowned organizations like Disney and the Ritz-Carlton, surveyed patients at over 300 hospitals around the country. SMMC’s scores for inpatient care, outpatient services, ambulatory care, and emergency care were among the top ten best in the nation for overall care. "Best in the Nation" Outpatient Services - 4 years in a row
Southern Maine Medical Center’s outpatient diagnostic services received the highest score of any healthcare facility surveyed by Avatar for the fourth year in a row. SMMC’s outpatient services are located in Biddeford, Saco and Kennebunk and offers patients close-to-home convenience for mammography, bone densitometry, radiology, laboratory services, rehabilitation services, health screenings and clinics, and specialty physician offices. The award-winning care we provide is enabled by some of the world’s leading medical technology, including York County’s only 64-slice CT scanner.

"Maine Caregiver of the Year" - 2 years in a row
Dedicated and highly skilled caregivers are the heart of every hospital and SMMC is blessed to have some of the best. In 2006, SMMC Hospitalist Dr. Gregory Leach became the first physician ever to receive Maine's Caregiver of the Year Award. In 2005, SMMC’s Care Coordinator Diane Frechette, RN, BSN, CNOR received the honor.
