Diabetes Education Program  
Evening Program: Tues/Thurs, June 24th & 26th, 6-8:30pm; 72 Main St, Kennebunk
Day Program: Wed, Aug 20th, 10am-12noon or 5-7pm; Wed, Aug 27, 9am-330pm (Lunch included)
SMMC Diagnostic & Therapy Center, 13 Industrial Park Road, Saco

The Diabetes Education Program at SMMC Visiting Nurses, lead by Diabetes Nurse Educator Deb Dumoulin, includes assessment by a Registered Nurse and Registered Dietician. This program assists those with diabetes in learning the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to achieve and maintain good diabetes control. The goal is to prevent acute and long-term complications which result in unnecessary hospitalizations. Physician referral required; cost covered by Medicare and most private insurances. Gastric Bypass Information Session  
Second Wednesday of Each Month; 6 to 7pm; SMMC
Free. Is gastric bypass the right decision for you? Have you tried the other weight loss methods and nothing seems to work? If you're considering gastric bypass surgery, then this introductory class is for you. Information will be presented about nutrition, resources, and other topics to help with the lifestyle and emotional adjustments you may face. For more information, call 283-7987.
Heartsaver CPR  
Courses include instruction, textbook and a 2-year certification card from the American Heart Association. All courses will be held at Kennebunk Fire & Rescue and cost is $35. Call Deputy Chief David Cluff at 985-2102 (ext. 1315) for more information.
Smoking Cessation Program: "Be Tobacco Free"  
Every Monday, 5 to 6pm, SMMC Cardiopulmonary Gym
Cost: $150. Individualized plans address the addiction, habits, and behaviors associated with the process of quitting. Pre-registration required; call Deb Brown at 283-7908, or Chris Rossi at 283-7798.
Total Joint Replacement Education Class
Second and Fourth Wednesday of each month
1 to 2:30pm, SMMC

Free. An informational educational session in which staff members share information about what patients can expect before, during and after the procedure and stay in the hospital. Information is provided and questions are answered by a team of professionals - an operating room nurse, an occupational therapist and a physical therapist. Open to our patients, potential patients, family members and the general public. For more information and to pre-register (NOT a requirement), please call 283-7767.

Most of our programs take place at SMMC (One Medical Center Drive, Biddeford), SMMC Visiting Nurses (Park Square: 72 Main Street, Kennebunk), or at one of SMMC's Diagnostic and Therapy Centers in Saco (13 Industrial Park Road, Saco), and Kennebunk (4 Shape Drive, Kennebunk). Locations are noted as either Biddeford-SMMC, SMMC Visiting Nurses, Saco, or Kennebunk. Other venues are clearly specified. Unless otherwise noted, there is no charge.
