| SMMC Employees Donate to York County Food Rescue |
 |
During a holiday meal celebration last month, Southern Maine Medical Center (SMMC) employees were given the option to make a donation in lieu of a free meal and raised $830 for the York County Food Rescue. SMMC chose this organization because they help alleviate hunger by enhancing the recovery of donated food in and around York County. In addition, the program improves coordination and communication between the 45 area food pantries and meal programs. The York County Food Rescue Program streamlines the donation process and ensures that agencies receive, free of charge, an appropriate and equitable amount of food safely and efficiently. In some cases, this rescued food accounts for 50% of the goods that food pantries distribute in their respective communities.
