Quality at SMMC

Southern Maine Medical Center is fully committed to providing each patient with the highest level of quality care. We follow proven best practices established by the nation's foremost healthcare experts. These experts include: The Joint Commission (JC), the Institute of Medicine (IOM), the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), the Agency for HealthCare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Home Health Quality Improvement National Campaign, and the National Quality Forum.

Southern Maine Medical Center is a Joint Commission accredited organization. It is through this accreditation process that the overall quality of care delivered throughout the organization is reviewed and approved. We provide evidence-based care for patients with a heart attack, pneumonia, congestive heart failure and select, high-risk surgical procedures per Joint Commission and CMS recommendations. Our outcomes are measured and publicly reported on various websites.

SMMC is accredited by the Joint Commission, the gold standard for healthcare organizations. The Joint Commission approves a healthcare organization for accreditation only after completing an intensive, unannounced survey of that organization that encompasses a review of the overall quality of care delivered throughout the organization.

SMMC provides evidence-based care for patients with heart attack, pneumonia, congestive heart failure and select, high-risk surgical procedures as recommended by the Joint Commission and the Center for Medicare Services (CMS). Our outcomes are measured and publicly reported on a variety of websites, and this information can be helpful to patients as a means to make informed decisions.
